Cementation of temporary crowns:

Before cementing a temporary crown, check fit, occlusion, proximal contacts and completes all finishing procedures.

  • Dry and isolate the prepared abutments. Absolute dryness is not necessary, but obvious contamination should be avoided.
  • Ensure the interior of the temporary crown is clean & dry. Apply the mixed cement directly into the temporary crown. You have 45-60 sec working time.
  • Immediately seat the crown and either hold in place or have the patient gently close on a cotton roll until the initial set which is 90-120 sec. The initial set is characterized by a distinct rubbery phase in which excess cement can be easily removed using an explorer or periodontal probe.
  • Remove excess cement. Take care to pass a probe through interproximal embrasures to eliminate excess cement in those areas.in most cases, excess cement will be extremely easy to remove usually in several large easy to handle pieces.
  • Final cement set is between 4-5 min. depending on conditions.
